In China, rice is generally boiled or steamed. Rice is usually cooked in quantity in Chinese families, what is left over can be used for fried rice. It can also be further boiled with water into soft rice, so called congee or it can be re-heated as plain boiled rice for subsequent meal.
After rice, noodle ranks as the most important bulk-food of China. The principal noodles used in China are wheat-flour noodles, egg noodles, rice-sticks noodles and transparent bean thread noodles. Noodles can be cooked not only with soup, but also stir-fried with meats and vegetables or mixed with sauce too.
